Hi Ant,
This tree is beautifully grown with a great trunk line and taper. I know this can be achieved with chinese elm its the roots which I find difficult, as you know I am a bit obsessed with fibre and I find it difficult to get the fibre I like on chinese elms. It may well be that I am not working them hard enough. I would really like to see your tree bare rooted so you can prove me wrong.

I can see the fibre is quite dense but it still has those strong roots which I always associate with this species. for me the jury is still out on chinese elms.

Hi ya Craig. I bought the tree years ago in a job lot. It was supposed to be a finished tree but looked so contrived that i aerial layered the top off, threw the middle bite away and now i am developing the base as a Shohin or even smaller. I havent been around in the Bonsai world long enough so i have to rely on good fortune and collecting.

Anyone said anything on the problems with the nebari's shown in the thread, or are we more focused on nice comments?

I guess that depends on which one and how you wanna talk about, but it always helps, if you can put one of your own up, as an example to us all. ;) :D 8-)

I think people need to understand what is good in a nebari and what isnt.
For example the first tree posted it clearly has a bad root. While the rest does look good that one root is distracting. It should be removed in a future repot.
One other tree has a large wound on the end of the root due to improper pruning. There are also tree's that appear to still have very old soil around the nebari.
There are very good articles all through bonsai today on perfecting the nebari. Hunt them down they are well worth the read, I know I will be when my stock gets naked again....

G'Day Asus, thanks for commenting but i think your vision is extending to a finished product where as i see these trees as a work in progress. I am sure the owners, including myself, are well aware of the faults but they are works in progress as i said. If we were to post only finished articles there would not be many posts happening ;) I see the forum as an encouragement and do not want to deter novices from posting their beginners.
