Oh yes,

One of my favorite trees and easy to grow from seed.(Taxodium distichum and same goes for Taxodium distichum var mexicanum (used to be Taxodium mucronatum / Montezuma Cypress and Metasequoia glyptostroboides /Dawn Redwood).

Harvest the cones, let them dry a bit and open up/ fall apart, then sow them on a bed of seed raing mix or equivalent, cover lightly with clean sand or non clogging mix and stand back.

One word of caution depending where you live. Don't sow too early in autumn as they will germinate instantly and if you live in a cold area they will germinate before spring and have to go through a winter when they are tiny. I had some Dawn Redwood that germinated in autumn and got to about 50mm high by winter, then went deciduous and then started all over again in spring. Lost some due to the cold and somne to some insects that gnawed on them over winter.

No don't wait to plant it till spring. Where I lived I planted around May or June so that were dormant but in the ground for a few months, but would not come up before autumn.

You will have to work out timing for your area.

Hi, I have now been propagating swamp cypress from seed for 5 yrs with minor success. Firstly u need fresh cones that are nearly ready to fall of by themselves. They need to dry in a paper bag until splitting or rubbed slighly and fall appart. They need to be sown directly onto the ground with peat moss below them and just covering them. It wil take anywhere fro 3days to 6 weeks to sprout. Only aroud 5/100 seeds will sprout so i scatter them nearly on top of themselves. The sowing time varies according to the state of the seeds, but I find july-october has the best results as I think they need a little cold stratification from winter. I have seeds this year already and will probably plant within a week! the earliest year yet, mayb the wet weather has fastened the seed this year. Where do u collect ur seeds?
