Eucalyptus thats been with me from almost the beginning

Post by Edward Scissorhand »

Dont know what kind of Euc is this, Its been with me from almost the beginning of my bonsai interest. It popped out as a seedling from one of my bonsais about 20 years ago. I almost threw it away because it was an ugly little thing that becomes even uglier when it dies back. Its died back countless of times, but fortunately not right to the bottom. Here it is and I will take pics of it each year.

I don't think that's ugly at all. So you've the had tree for around 20 years? That's great.

Not yet, but dad has actually been really good at looking after them. He killed the last lot of trees i left in his care 8-)

I am heading down to sydney next w/e to do some rego work on my car. Cant wait to look over the new babies and get them home & settled. Now to get in & dig the last 500sqm of yard and get lots of stuff in the ground to fatten.

I will be doing some more experiments with ground growing eucalypts and a few other natives... its going to be fun  And those gingko's i cant wait :D

Hey Matt, maybe you could do a progression of all the young stuff, especially nice to see what it look like before it went into the ground and then afterwards in a few years down the track.

This forum has motivated me to get back into photographing my trees more often so i have a record of them for the long term. What i did & what worked /didnt work. So dont worry there will be lots to come over the years & dont forget you have a vested interest, pick of the crop when they start becoming something more.

Hi Jaime, yeah I know, but Im trying to promote aussie natives on this forum see. Besides I think alot of Ausbonsai members hop to and fro between the IBC and Ausbonsai anyways. The IBC is just more to show people from around the world whats happening downunder. Anychance of showing some of your natives Jaime? :P Especially Gums if you got any.

Come on Jaime, get some cheap gum tubestock at your local council nursery or just shake some out of the local gum nuts and onto some wet soil. Easy to grow and the satisfaction of seeing it grow from nothing. If you start now, youll get something respectable when you hit 50.
