Due to lack of space i have only got two lights shining from the side. They are "shoot through" umbrellas set off as slave units to the camera. The distance is very close and often the shots are on wide angle with the bigger trees. Not able to keep the trees far from the background but satisfactory.

Just two colors for background at the moment; light green or black. I will get a light-mid blue soon like Pup..

When I photograph Teds Angophora I will photograph the whole lifting, moving and photographing experience including a view into the "studio'/garage/shed.

A bit primitive at the moment but when we move up to our new site, just wait.

Hi Aaron,
We trimmed back and rubbed some buds today and I hope to photograph it tomorrow. It looks nice.

Today was a bit hectic. My wife had a cataract operation today so of course i have been a bit distracted.

Hi Grant,

I defoliated my Zelkova a few days ago by plucking the leaves and supporting the branch as Lindsay also mentioned. Already buds are starting to be visible. Good luck with the cataract. She Who Must be Obeyed had her second cataract done 3 weeks ago and we have another 3 weeks of eye drops to go. Expect to do most of the driving as a new licence will be required with no glasses for driving required. The double vision settled after about 12 days................

Photo of the new growth with tree against a black background. It will of course very soon be completely covered and hidden by the new foliage. It will take a year or two to bring it to its optimum show condition and will always be at its best on show in winter.

The lighter backgrounds are good for highlighting structure whereas the darker backgrounds soften and hide blemishes.

Looking interesting Grant. I imagine in a few more weeks it will be covered in growth. It reminds me of a larch group i have seen somewhere on the net. It has a real spooky quality to it, almost like an enchanted forest. I am sure that it will only get better in your hands with your ongoing care.

I think i like the white background more than the black for this group, but it is interesting that black hides the blemishes more. I really need to start looking at getting a better photo set up.

I have attached a pic i took in Japan of a tiny Zelkova broom that had recently been defoliated just for interests sake. I can only imagine how good the above group will look when it has similar ramification to the below tree.

The one on the extreme right. It breaks some peoples ideas of rules quite nicely don't you think?
