Re: NBPCA - 5 Needle Pine
Its a tanuki. That front piece is not part of the tree. It is a very beautiful composition. Definitely worth seeing in real life, and indeed the whole collection people!

Re: NBPCA - 5 Needle Pine
This is a single tree, dating from the late 1970's. It's curved trunk rests on a piece of deadwood. It's braches, all on the same side, create the illusion of a small grove of pines. Its training began in 1980, but it was not until 1993 that the present "raft style" was adopted. Note the classic triangular outline of the canopy, paralleled by the shape of the trunk. The artist achieved balance between knowledge, skill and art that makes the best of bonsai.

Re: NBPCA - 5 Needle Pine
Hi all,
Just scanning in some photos this morning and found an old photo I took in 2002. The bonsai has matured a lot since then but the basic structure was evident back then.
