Discussions about propagating from cuttings, seeds, air layers etc. Going on a dig (Yamadori) or thinking of importing? Discuss how, when and where here.
this was done last year when i was trimming my other privet and took a branch and just shoved it in the ground with no hormone gel or powder nothing just STAB and there u go
after a few weeks i realised its not going brown or wilting so this year while i was cleaning out the growing bed i dug it up and what do u know strong little bugger grew a nice set of roots

They can almost be like figs in the propogatong department, they just grow so strongly. I plan on digging up a privit this holidays that is a natural raft style bit it only has 2 trees on it so I'm going to take cuttings from the tree and let them grow on and then later in the year drill a few holes through the laying down trunk and feed the cutting through and let them fuse. This will give me a few more trees hopefully.

They are amazing trees. I once dug up a clump and removed an awkward trunk at the back with very few roots, literally severed it from the main trunk. Today it is one of the top trees in my collection and never looked back. The thing about privets, once in a pot they don't thicken much so let them grow in the ground until you are happy with the trunk thickness - then pot.

All my privets are shooting wildly at the moment. Even noticed one the other day I dug and thought was dead shooting, wasn't even watering it. My little privet forest is churning out brachlets after being chopped back 2 weeks ago.
The new growth on all my privets, is growing at about 1cm a day. Crazy little things.

Went out and collected 2 privits yesterday, one an upright trunk with a great base and the other being a falln trunk like style of tree. Hey should survive I left enough feeder roots I think. Still have to get that raft privit I found, funny thing is I found another one yesterday while diggging he others out, chopped it back and will have to go get it aswell when I get the other one.

Thanks anja, it's a really interesing peice of material. The front is dead wood with lots of character, I plan on styling it into a twin trunk, mother & daughter style.
