My big Radiata Pine.

Post by Edward Scissorhand »

Its a very big tree. I couldnt get a good pic because my backyard is a jungle and not enough room to move around and take good pics. Just been trimmed and fertilised today. Hard work. 3rd April 2010.

Hi Jamie, doesnt take long to reduce needles from ground grown trees. It reduces itself every year if you know how and when to trim or pluck needles and of course candle pinch. The more back budding you get, the more the energy has to be shared between all the buds and hence the smaller the needles. For a healthy ground grown tree, I would say 3 years to see a nice noticeable reduction. I havent finished with my work on this radiata for this year. I still got lots of wiring to do.

No worries, you can come over if you got decent material. If its a small one, dont bother, just stick it in the ground and close your eyes for about 5 years. Cheers Ed

Mine is about 2 years, definitely the needles are shorter than the mother species, but still has a long way to go, won't post a pic as its not really ready for that yet.
