Azalea dig - urgent advice needed

Post by Ellen »

I have just dug out a very old azalea from my backyard. Took hours and involved lying in mud for much of it. I have finally got the thing out but unfortunately it's sustained a bit of damage - has the struck by lightning look about it due to a slip of the pick mattock. I have slathered the wound with the Japanese wound sealer but was wondering if I should try to glue the missing chunk back in place. It will be a miracle if it survives I suppose as I had to cut all the major roots. I have it in a poly box and have given it seasol.

If it will look funny in the future without then yes glue it bck ( do not get any glue near the bark or cambium), but if the tree looks OK without ithen dont worry about it

What Ken said. It will be fine. I dug a big Az two weeks ago, just been giving it seasol and watering. It's already pushing new growth so much, I had to cut it back. Good luck, any pics? :)
Regards, Mitchell.
