New Shimpaku (Raw stock)

Post by Scott Roxburgh »

This is my largest Shimpaku, that I picked up today at the Canberra Bonsai Society meeting.

I bought this one primarily because of the roots they seemed to be the best of the 10 or so that were up for sale.

From what I gather these were grown from cuttings by our resident NBPCA curator Grant, he may chime in and let us know it's approx. age?

I'm mostly looking for some ideas on where to go.

Here are some pics.

Nice find scott. Lots of low branches to select.
Always we hope someone else has the answer.

As you know J Shimpaku is very slow and these would be 15 years or older. Struck from cuttings and grown on slowly potted up to the size they are in now.

These are the last of my stock that I propigated; I sold them to Leigh last year and he has the remaining few.

Here was a demo I did for Bonsai By The Harbour.

Nice stock mate! Shall make a great tree. Other may dis-agree, but I think I would not use the branch on the left but the one to the right. Depending on which side your looking at... :)

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Thanks,

I need to get back onto that one. It has been resting (I have been resting) for a year or so.
