Radiata Stump
I did some digging on the weekend, came home with this radiata pine almost bare rooted.
Hopefully it will survive the shock as I see lots of possibilities. Perhaps people could share their ideas on where the future styling might go.

Re: Radiata Stump
Thanks Jamie, I have removed no live foliage at all just shortened some dead twigs. I expect to wait about a year before the tree is healthy enough to style

Re: Radiata Stump
did you chop this one down in height some when collected? when you say you have removed no live foliage? a year should be good for it, if it is still looking a bit sorry for itself leave it for another year, from what i have seen they can sulk?

Re: Radiata Stump
Hey gerard; looks good cleaned up! If it survives, i would reccomend that you put styling off for at least 3 years. For 2 reasons; 1st the future well being of the tree. it needs as many fine feeder's in that box as you can get in there so as to stabalise its new potted culture. to achieve that it needs to just grow and grow and grow. Which leads to the 2nd reason. All this uninhibited growth will not only give your tree the vigour it needs to be sustainable, but will also give you a marriage union from the old trunk to the now leader. IMO regardless of what and how it is styled. Then beyond these objections there is a wide and varied potential for styling this tree. You could start to work and treat the dead wood in a years time. Thats all for now, i dont want to mozz it! Maybe one more this weekend,2,3... ???

Re: Radiata Stump
Thanks guys,
Jamie: I believe the main trunk was chopped 1.5 years ago to be used as a xmas tree and all the live growth is since then. The poly box is large sized (60cm or so) the base about 15-20cm and the main vertical trunk about 8 cm
Antonio: Always keen for a dig but I am not too sure about the guys I was digging with.
They were either Italian opera singers or mafia, I did not have the courage to tell them that their singing sucks
