Hi Jamie i do things the easier softer way .The trunk was collected for the purpose of shooting whips on with a staple gun .The wire frame method i think i read it took 8-10 hours , mate i could produce 5-6 in that time .I like the weight of a solid trunk , now how can you carve a wire frame ??? It took 1 hour to collect the whips carve the trunk and staple the bases of the tridents , then another hour to defol' spiral wrap , apply the grafting tape , comb the roots and pot it up .Just like a good walk in the park .Cheers
Hey Alpine I was just checkin out your method of trunk bending with copper tube. I think I might give it a go with my cedar that I have pretty much decided on turning into a literati.
Looking forward to seeing this one come out of the oven.
Any reason why you could not de insert the cone of wood after a few years? It would keep it lighter.

Hi Grant , in 12 months you wont be able to move the stump , the maples will strangle every hollow and hump .I want the seedlings to grow around the carving already done .Cheers
