Hopefully that link will work to a picture of one. I think the other name for them is forest pansy, not sure why.

Re: Searching for Eastern Redbud....
Cercis canadensis (Eastern Redbud) is a large shrub or small tree native to eastern North America from Southern Ontario, Canada south to northern Florida. You'd be lucky to find one here, Simon. Better to get one before you come back home. (you are the gentleman who is currently overseas and coming back to Melbourne, aren't you?)

Have you had to part with many of your bonsai's Simon? It must be like selling off lifelong friends (or even children).SimonL wrote:thanks for advice. I'll just get my boss here to ship me some seeds.

Yeah, sadly i've had to sell all of my bonsai. But, as a condition of sale i've made the new owners promise to email with updates. I had 7 of them in my personal collection and i'm positive i'll be in contact with 5 of the new owners forever, but 2 of them i'm a bit worried about.

Re: Searching for Eastern Redbud....
yeah i've been working on 2 eastern redbud bonsai, one pink and one white. The Pink one, and my fav, i trained into a "weeping" style. The white one is apparently very rare, but its just a normal informal upright.craigw60 wrote:Hi Simon, plenty of cercis available in vic. The red leaved one is forest pansy. We call them judas trees. Re: Searching for Eastern Redbud....
this shrub is also known as the JUDAS TREE. you can get them in nurseries here. usually around this time of year when nurseries start getting their deciduous ornamental tree stock in. i have seen this tree at Bunnings for $60.
