red maples,which would you grow?

Post by ghostmike77 »

hi everyone, i would like to know what red maple you recommend on growing as i already have Atropurpureum in the fridge but i just read in a bonsai book that this isnt a great variety due to the broadleaf and coarse growth and they said it wasnt a true red maple like the Deshojo and Chishio

what are ur thoughts on this and do you know where i could get these seeds from as they seem hard to find on the net
Thanks
Mike

I have Acer Palmatum - Deshojo here and also Acer Palmatum - Japanese Red ( do not know if this is the correct name tho).

Both from Ray Nesci.

I love the red colour of them both with new growth.

Pity we cannot send them over to you :-).

I think in winter bare rooted you might be able. Mike you could try by asking Ray he used to ship trees here. In the late 80s- early 90s.
Not sure what the restrictions on Maples are. I should think they will be OK as we can import them from Japan.
Not Ulmus or fruit of any kind though.

Cheers :) Pup
