Green island fig- semi cascade

hi guys

here is a little green island fig i got from a mate yesterday, it is a nice little trunk and will make a nice semi with a bit more refinement. this beast had massive airials, when he handed it to me they were long enough to hit the ground when i was standing up! oh one other thing, the thick cascading branch although you cant see it, there is another cascading branch going to the back, it was as thick as the branch coming off the trunk, it will make a nice little tree aswell, i have no fear it will not strike as it had some developed airial roots that had some feeders on it, so that will be another tree in a couple of months!

height- 200mm, thickness- nebari 100mm, above nebari 70mm

Good stuff jamie that type of leaf reminds me of the jade. i have a GI fig but nothing like that

yea the leaves are a little similar to crassula, they are quite thick on GI figs aswell. the do reduce and will get tighter though. the thing with green island figs is they take a long time to grow size and thickness, im not sure but i think these are known as golden gate ficus over in USA??? can someone clarify this?

Nice find! Should work up to make a nice cascade or semi-cascade in your hands.
The Green Island tends to have pretty round leaves. I have seen many Ficus microcarpa seed grown plants that have all shape and texture of leaves. Many, many can have round-ish leaves. Green Island is just one cultivar that has such rounder leaves.
I believe Golden Gate does not have such round leaves. It has a typical microcarpa leaf that is thicker and smaller than normal.

Very nice. One of the best greeny I've seen. This reminds me the two big ones I saw at the flea market recently - they were on sales for $10 each and I was a bit too late

thanks DK and andrew this one definately has some age to it, if you can get one with size and taper i would of snavelled it DK!

i cant take credit for growing this one though, this one was grown by Rod, and grown well considering that they are slow to thicken and a develop.
