this is my liquidambar i just brought today. its about 2 metres and and inch diameter at the bottom trunk. its back budding all over the lower trunk so cant wait till spring to give it the chop and bring it into training

any do's or donts i should be aware of? any advice on the chop? its all new to me but i think i know what im doing

Can't help with any care information...but Pup has a really nice one and he maybe able to point you in the right direction.

Sometimes liquidambar can die back after hard cutting so just be a bit careful there. If I had my time over again I suspect I wouldn't grow them its so much work getting the leaf size down and its continuous if you stop for just a short period over the growing season they just get big again straight away. I have a group of them which is great in winter but gets up my nose every summer because of the leaves.

die back can be an issue so beware, but they ususally shoot back from old wood OK
the leaves reduce well, but you must keep up with them as craig says, miss a week and you are back to square one.

If you keep them as a larger tree, then less of a problem I think
Care is like any other deciduaous tree
