Pot ideas for this Privet (2 Virtuals)

Post by Amanda »

Sorry about the background! I have done a couple of virtuals with two pots which caught my eye because they are umm.. different, and lots of character. Really like the drippy wormy, brick pot, but not so much strong detail as in this, the drips smaller and much less, the general ruggedness is appealing however.
The tree still needs some basic work, treatment and pads need some refinement and filling out etc etc, I really would like to get it into something a tad smaller than the current pot and into some new soil (privet roots  ), make it easier for me to move around too! Current pot ------ >>>

I'll be visiting Penny soon so we can go over ideas but for now I'd appreciate your honest opinions and what else may be suitable for this tree, pot shape, texture, colour, glaze, height etc and if you think that either of the virts are any good or link me to ideas.

Thanks :)

I must say that i really like the tree. Get to work on those foliage pads and it will be a beautiful tree.

Hey Anja... nice weed  No seriously .. I like where this is heading, Bohdi is right get the pads happening (dead easy on privet) & your on a winner.

I would go with an oval.. I really like those 2 pots tho.. where did you find them? When your talking to Penny ask about 'MFG' (my favourite glaze). I have just tried to get a photo of one of her pots in this glaze but no luck, maybe tomorow in daylight.

Wow Anja, awesome tree! Incredible - and great pots to match the character tree. I love them both but think i prefer the oval. I reckon that one would be great :D

Cheers Dayne :)

Bodhi, I need to get myself off to a club and seek help with the root pruning, too big a job for me and be good to get some other ideas from members too.

Matt, yeah I reckon hey it's an ace weed. I found the pots using google and photoshopped them in. The abstract is one of Vics pots from Erin Pottery and looks much better at the link below. and a pic of the freeform as an attachment.

Hey girl get in & get your hands dirty   ...

Its privet.. you can slaughter them roots & all, tho I would probably hold off now till around August and then GO FOR IT. Defoliate & bareroot, get as many of the bigger roots out as possible leaving just feeders and slap it back in. I did one at the beginning of May but I wasnt hard on the roots or top, reduced the roots by about half & put it back in. It had only been dug last november but was already pushing out of the box.

I have just dug a few more bits of privet, wasnt an intentional hunt just an opportunistic one while doing a search for scar trees in the bushland behind my back fence. They will come back fine just abit slower than usual because of the time of year, so you could do yours now but why slow it down. Keep pinching it out as it grows & come August you will be a long way towards it and repotting will be less of a stress for you & the tree.

I will be coming past in a few weeks time & will drop in so we can have a chat about trees & digs & dogs... oh and I might bring you a surprise if your really good between now & then ;) :D

Lol, Matt. it's not the dirt I'm afraid of, it is definitely a job for 2 or more people, you'll see :) I'll hold off until August, sitting in a nice cozy corner til then, a quick peek shows it'll be ready for a haircut. Hey you know I've scouted bushland And gardens but I reckon privet is elusive around here, I have not found one pesky weed. Plenty of natives though
I'll pm my address in the morning too.

I'm on my phone at the moment and navigating is trying on a small screen. I'll check them out in the a.m. Was shipping very much, Neal?

I get free shipping for an order of 10 pots or more, of any size.
Also Vic will happily put them aside for you until you reach 10, doesn't matter how long it takes, so you don't have to get them all at once.

Yeah and if you only want accents and shohin you might not even need ten, not sure you'll have to check with Vic, he's very easy going and prompt with email too. Or you can get together with friends to make up an order, we have done that a bit here. I just check the web thurs or friday each week when new stuff goes up and get one when something strikes me and put it aside till i have enough. The exchange rate is quite good at present too :D

Cheers,

neal.
