42 Mice ~Imperfection
"Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards." ~ Vernon Sanders Law
"All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own." ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goeth
"Bonsai becomes great when growers start trees they know they will never see in a pot"
This tree is a lost cause and you might as well start again from seed
I would still like to see the tree in full before I decided. As we see in penjing sometimes a more interesting tree can be had with roots that are not in the Japanese style of perfect roots. Also if it was decided to ground layer to get rid of the ugly roots we could get a better idea of the base ratio to those branches that are quite thick! From what I can gather from these pictures and the ones in the collection thread if it was to be ground layered for new roots the base thickness to branches will no longer be effective and the branches would need to be reduced dramatically. That is an option but may not be what Kvan is after.
Just think it is advisable to get the full picture before giving such advice!
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.
