Picea gluaca "globe"

Post by alpineart »

This was one of many trees i purchased from a lady in Wangaratta, she rescues "suffering trees". It cost 5 bucks , at the time i had numerous Norway Spruces but not a Globe .Whilst i've been told they don't make good Bonsai , i didn't listen and this is the result .

These are the latest pics , 18 months after i hacked and chopped over time through the 13 original trunks leaving only 3

The trunks were removed over a 12 month period rather than in one hit . All in all its progressing well from when i purchased it .Cheers Alpine

Alpine, you have really brought out the tree within. Wonderful.

Hi,

I may be wrong but I think it is a sport of the Picea glauca "Alberta Conica" named Globe by the grower Gordon Milton? at Wentworth Falls NSW. The foliage sure looks like it rather than Picea abies.

Hi Grant you are probably correct , it wouldn't be the first time a tree has been mis-labelled .I actually visited a Bonsai Nursery several week ago ,they were selling Nigra's as J.B.P.The trees were purchased from a wholesaler so the mistake was made elsewhere ..Maybe a MOD can change the tag on this .Thanks for the info .Cheers Alpine

No problem.

I remember boucing around that nursery (Miltons) in the late 1970s and choosing stock and rock with Hatsuji Kato in 1988.
