V-cut Port Jackson

Post by aussie4bonsai »

+I acquired this Port Jackson around 2004. It was growing in a Coral tree.

+First photo 22/9/2004 with new growth, after reducing to pot size.

+After two years of trying to grow branches across the large scar. Not being very happy with the way this idea was progressing, I didn’t take any later photos.

+In early Autumn my last V-cut of the season. Sorry no photos of the cut, as I was disappointed in the result of 6 years of effort and didn’t bother.
Above photo taken today.

+When I look at this Fig I can only wonder how it would look if I had V-cut it 6 years ago.

Shame the cut has taken a while to blend.
You have prompted me to go rescue a fig from a tree near my place. It has been attacked twice now and had its tap root cut through on both occasions. They'll kill it soon so now may be the time to collect. Where was that crowbar though...? :? 8-)
Regards, Mitchell.

Mitchell  Be sure to get pics! You'll regret it otherwise, sounds fun.

I've just watched Lindsays WorldOfBonsai series 2 episode 9 and there was mention that foil covering scars allow them to heal faster without sun penetrating, might be an idea with ficus.
