hi mate, good to se your interest has become reality! :D what you want to do is keep it happy now, full sun, water when the medium gets just dry, it will lok dry on top if you put your finger in the medium and it is still wet it wont need water but if it is just moist, then you can give it a drink, being this time of year it will probably only need water maybe every two days. the leaves on this one look very new, i would say its possibly a QLD small leaf, port jackson or moreton bay. its a bit hard to tell right now. if it is port jackson most of the time they have tiny little hairs on the underside of the leaf.

post up pics of the lilly pilly in the native section for some help with that one :D

G'day Greenhorn,

It sounds like you are on your way with lots of help from others.
Just don't be in to much of a hurry to put all your trees in a bonsai pot. Let them grow on a bit. :D

Cheers Gib

Thanks Gib but it's only in a bonsai pot because that's how i bought it, I'll be looking to repot in the warmer months if that"s a sound idea or not? in order to grow a more impressive tree. The one thing I'm not is in a hurry for anything which is exactly why bonsai appeals to me other than learning more about mother nature.

if you are happy with the size of the trunk the it will be fine in a bonsai pot mate, you can develop branching fine in a bot, the only reason to go into a grow pot/box or the ground is to get more size to the trunk and to develop taper. if you do go with a repot the warmer times are better. you could get away with it now but you are patient so thats fine, with bonsai a lot is a bout after care, providing good after care can be what determines if it dies or not. being a fig they are pretty tough, i wouldnt count out PJ just yet as those leaves are still very new, it looks like this one could eventually be styled into a windswept tree, that could change over and again as you develop your skills and change what you like.

Thanks Jamie it's the windswept look that caught my eye. It'll be good to see where it goes in time. I've also posted pics of the lillypilly in the native section so if anyone has any experience or suggestions that would be great.

hi mate :D

I wouldnt be to stressed about doing to much with the tree right now, just let in really grow strong, then consider doing some work. water as needed, feed heavily and step back ;)
