Im thinking a 59 year old Pine might have come from a certain nursery in Castle Hill Sydney - would this be a correct guess?

If not what is the provinence of the tree?

A Canberran artist by the name of Joe Micalef did a lot of bonsai in Canberra back in the 1960s. He had it many years and then it went through two other hands before it came to me. The label said 1951.

The Koreshofs brought out seed from Japan in1951 but they were Red pine, Black pine, Zelkova and one other but I don't think Mugo.

Leigh says he will download onto Youtube as soon as possible via SLR/Video camera. Just 3 or 4 minute bursts apparently.

Will take still pics as we go as well.

Tuesday evenings are now a regular workshop night for a few friends in Canberra and so there wil be 4 or 5 of us there. I will take along my Lap top and Dongle(Potable prepaid broadband) and see how it goes. There is a projection screen we can take pics against.

Just to clarify,

We will start working on this tree at around 7pm tomorrow night, Tuesday 15th June. We will put some video on Youtube plus some stills on Ausbonsai with the link to Youtube.

I intend to jin the existing main trunk and go only with the branches that come from the lowest right hand branch; possibly keep the lowest back branch at this stage; it depends on how high the new apex is or how low and windswept; haven't
decided yet.

Don't know how far we will get tomorrow night. If we need to bend/carve/work the jin it will take a while and we will get on with the wiring next week.

If anyone has some vert skills you could do some mock ups.

1. Jin in current position and pile the branches up about 2/3rds of the height of the jin and mostly over the trunk/base.
2. Bend jin down and to the right. Apex would be well to the right of the jin and lower than option 1.
3. Even more extreme bend in jin and right hand branches go into semi cascade.

I thought it would save some misunderstandings and time.

The lower trunk has a lot of movement so it will be interesting to see how it all works out. There are about 4 branches coming from the one right hand cluster. Two will probably go right, one up and over and one to the back and around if necessary for option 1.

If it were planted into a half moon pot the trunk could be angled a bit more down to the right.

We will see tomorrow night when we have it up on the hoist.
