Hi,
I've recently aquired a quantity of maple seed of various types and would like to know the best way to remove the wings from the seeds. Can I just rub them between my hands to remove them or can this potentally damage the seed?
If I dont remove the wing from each seed will this effect the germination rate of the seed?
Am I setting myself up for rot problems if I dont remove the wing?
Thanks in advance.
Keith.

Re: Maple question
don't worry about the Wing, Just Stratify in the fridge as normal and then sow the seed completelykcb_1983 wrote:Hi,

Re: Maple question
I took the wings of tousands of trident seeds by rubbing between the hands. I must of been in a good mood as it is a momotenous job. I rather liked the look of my fresh clean seeds after but wether it matters or not I doubt it. There is no one in the wild to rub them off. I think maybe it is a transport thing so that seeds can be seen to be free from debri and less chance of transporting pathogens!
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.
