This tree has been in training 1.6 years and the leaves have already reduced over 50%. It must live in a water tray 24/7 and wilts if the tray is dry for too long even if the soil is wet. This tree likes water!! The branches have been styled to mimic the grand trees growing locally. It seems as tho most branches develop normally but one or two branches will initially be weak and sag. Eventually they sort themselves out and pick up resulting in some of the most interesting shapes and curves to major branches. The tree shoots back well from old wood so it would not be difficult to restyle to more conventional branch shape if that was preferred. But this branch shaping is the way the tree naturally develops. Wiring is fine but should be removed within a month. Branches set and swell quickly but eventually the bark will cover any wire marks.
If the tree was established in a larger training pot the development would be faster. As it is, the bark already has that fissured look of the quins and will only get better as it thickens.
