Pinus Nigra "Austriaca"

Post by alpineart »

This has been a battle of the human kind , self sown in the wild to be chop topped by a chainsaw followed by a crushing experience with Caterpillar dozer .Yes its had it hard , but this is now on the up and up .

Because this has had some previous trimming {buds only} i continued on with a wire , style and trim 2 days after collecting .

Don't know much about this species but it seems like a good one!
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Hi Bretts , nigra's are rippers for back budding and needle reduction .Collecting can be hit and miss if you just dig out , but i usually cut the roots over a 2 year period on selected trees. The biggest draw back is reverse taper , but i guess you get that with most Yamadori pines .This one has little or no reverse taper due to the fact the tap root was obviously severed by the dozer , hence the easy removal .Cheers Alpine
