I am not too sure why you cut off so much of roots? The big one I understand.
I hope you take some photos of the root grafting process.
(I have a feeling that, in a few years times, there will be a book with title like Ausbonsai.com Best Projects Illustrated,
and you will never know, one of Mr. Antonio's tridents will be in there )
Hi viet, book what book??? are they paying??? Now two reasons why; 1 to get rid of reverse taper and 2 to practice grafting. Now that i have had a practice im ready for "Trident a little different" , stay tuned but first a little reward with "Chianti Borgo Sanleo"

Hi Ant,
Thank god you are taking the time out to fix the base on this one, trunk bases are what make the bonsai world go round as far as I'm concerned .
Fairly sure that is a high priority out Werribee way too .
I was once told "if you don't like it, then fix it. If you can't fix it, then don't bother with it in the first place."
If only that bit of advice had arrived at the start of the journey, not 4 years into it
Cheers,
Mojo
