Chinese Elm advice...

Hi guys,

this is my first topic regarding one of my own trees... so please go easy.

i got this Elm about 2 years ago off a mate of mine........ he floats around here time to time
this tree was grown in the ground using the cut & grow method so there are some visible scars that hopefully will cover over in time due to the Elm's corky bark.

so i guess i was really after some advice / feedback that would help make this a better tree.

a couple things i have been thinking about is....
1) removing the apex and bringing in down to the branch below. ( the tree stands at 420mm from the soil )
2) potting it up this year ( what type of pot / colour & style )

Ha Funny Ant I was look at the tree thinking pity they let that centre section grow so straight and untapered,
I agree with Ant.
If you want to pot the tree then a glazed pot is usually used for deciduous trees.

Hi ,
I really like Ants idea and if you consider doing this, I would suggest an air layering where Ant has started to taper the top, I think you will get a lovely tree out of the top of the elm as well.

yeah i have to agree with you all that the tree has this straight centre section.

i guess this one is destined for a few more years in a grow pot....
