I recently spent the day with Penny (Mudlarkpottery) discussing trees pots dogs & the universe in general. While chatting she had me make my own pot. I havent had my hands on clay in over 20yrs (since I left school) so it was an interesting afternoon to say the least.
I went over today to be there when the kiln was unloaded. I was half expecting the pot to have shattered or split or some other catastrophy... Not at all and I am stoked with the result of my little experiment.
The first but definitely wont be the last pot I make. With one of my passions being soe it was only natural to start with a pot for one, it would also work for a mame cascade, 7cm tall and 7cm across the rim.
Critiques most welcome.
Matt

Re: My first pot
I like it Matt, very earthy and has a rustic appeal to it. Suit a nice little cascade juniper perhaps. Just remember it is one of a kind.

Very nice and very unique...love the colour and it also has a textured look. Very very different.
I'd like to give this a try up the track.

Re: My first pot
Chris, One of a kind... bit like me.. the pot is the better kind.
Neal, I am getting Penny to make a 5 sided pot in the same clay for a cycad I have (with a fair bit of convincing) so this was my attempt at a miniature version. Penny will of course do a much better job of it, I love her pots and her willingness to work with my (or anyone elses) requests.
Loretta, get in & get your hands dirty... It was so much fun making this baby and have since done a few more. The texture is not just an appearance, this clay feels gritty when raw (apparently its not fun to throw on a wheel) and a lovely softly bumpy feel when fired. I think Penny is going to have to up her order for this stuff next time she gets clay... I love it, I have made 2 more in the same clay. It has an interesting affect on any glazes put over it too so I will be exploring that under her guidance over time.
Jake, I am actually thinking one of my many native soe, the hard part is choosing which one will marry up with the shape & colour. Tho chris's idea of a juni would look nice, I just have to get over my dislike of them.

That pot is crazy, I love it. Might have to slip it into my pocket when I'm up next
