Blaauw's Juniper

[Leigh Taafe]

This juniper is around 40 years old. I got the raw material from Duckwood Bonsai Nursery about 6 or 7 years ago. I have posted a few pics here of the tree's progression since I got it. I am still working on a few things before I will be happy with the tree.

I would like to grow the lower branches a bit further and also lower them down a bit more. I also have a fair bit more work to do with the carving. It is a work in progress, and my aim is to have it looking the way I would like in around 18 months.

I like where this tree has come leigh

when i seen the first style i thought that was it then it filled out as i was pressing down for the next pic!

i love trees like this, patience is the only real way you can get them as those jin need to be grown out to get what ya want like that. Do you plan on refining the foliage on this one into pads? I think the tree would greatly benefit from it, not that it doesnt look great now

Hi Jamie,

Yes I will be refining the foliage. However, I wont be going for pom pom pads of foliage - I will be going for more of a canopy with definition - more realistic tree appearance in my opinion.

yep completly agree, that is what i have been trying to do with the one dumper sent me, it still has a way to go but to give the tree a full canopy i reckon to define the foliage to show there is some spacial difference and not just a helmet like appearance is key. this one of yours wouldnt suit the pom pom look i dont reckon mate.

I was hoping for more discussion on this tree, surely there is someone out there with an opinion.
Like it, dont like it, change it, what would you do? Any virts?

Amazing tree! I find the deadwood a bit busy for my tastes, thought I might add an angle change too. Don't think you should go this way, was just mucking around and you did ask for virts. :

Thanks Mitchell, I dont mind that tilt at all - considering I still need to work on the foliage and bring the branches down, that tilt could enhance the look of this tree.

i am working on a virt, its just taking longer as i have to use a normal mouse at the moment and am used to a synaptics mouse on the laptop
