camellia yunnanensis

Last week I was working in an australian native garden and I found a refugee from China which was being deported so I rescued it. I have quite a good collection of small flowered camellia species and hybrids in the garden and was going to add this one to them, but have been looking at it all week and I think it could make a nice bonsai. The trunk base is about 50mm thick quite good for a camellia they are usually pretty slow to thicken. The flower is about the size of a 20c piece.

Nice looking flower. Lovely bark, but don't you find the trunk a little boring?

What are your plans for it?

Looks very nice Craig, I think it would make a great bonsai. Is there much of a nebari there? The flowers would be the main feature i guess.
I'm sure it would be very nice in the harden too, good luck whatever you decide

Thanks guys, I don't know whats under the soil I will leave it alone until the flowering has stopped. I dug it up with a large lump of monbulk soil which is the best soil I have every seen.
Jarrod the bark is very similar to stewartia in colour. Will cut it down low the pic doesn't show it but there is a bit of taper/movement in there.
