New Fig now available

Post by Loretta »

For all the Ficus lovers  Are any of you aware of the new fig on the market called "Midnight Beauty"?? It has very very dark green leaves with very light green leaves scattered through. Takes very low light and is perfect for indoors.
Would be a good one for all of you who live in cold climates.

hi loretta, they have been around for a few years. midnight beauty is actually one that i fused and turned into a banyan :D see here -

viewtopic.php?f=133&t=5140&hilit=clump+to+banyan

the light green leaves are actually all the new growth. it is one fig that i have had excellent success with them especially being a benjimina. when grown in full sun they will absolutely pump growth.

interestingly enough you say that pup!

I got given a book when i first started in bonsai which was a great reference i cant remember the name of it, then my brother gave me a book for christmas, i started reading into and realised it was the same book but a hard cover with bigger pages!

I still have the new hard cover which was by Colin Lewis - a hamlyn care guide or something along those lines!

If you are truelly Bonsai Master Grasshopper, then book must have been from Sunset Publications.

How many of the oldens on here started with this book? Wonder if it is still printed? I have two prints of it somewhere - might be worth a veratable fortune I hear you say :D (Well probably worth more than any trees I have anyhow :P )

Honestly graeme i cannot be sure of that :? that book i got given i ended up passing it on to someone else, dont htink it was worth a fortune though  ;)

If you guys are after midnight beauties let me know how many you want and i will get some cuttings going, will be cheaper than what ya have to pay for em and they grow like rockets especially for a fig.

Yes they are just a hybrid off benji, other than the baby bens, the midnight beauties are my second prefered benji.

God Jake, after Jamie telling me they're not new, I thought maybe they'd been out for about a year....but 6 years is a shock :o Something should be done about false advertising  Your tree has turned out beautifull, how many trees did you end up getting out of the original one???

I picked up a few pots with 3 or 4 in each from the clearance section of Buzzings. I'm going to start layering this week :)

Not that this is important, but this "Buzzings" keeps popping up. Is this an actual shop or is it your nick-name for Bunnings? :? :? Loretta

spot on loretta ;)

as for the tags saying new, being that they are not, shows the amount of change they do on these plants in the nursery you seen them from. they probably havent even potted to poor things up, being a fig they are generally fine pot bound but its not exactly ideal for them.
