Tiger Fig

I hope it's a native, but haven't been able to get much info on them. I picked this one up from Nesci Nursery at the Gosford exhibition in October. It has a fruit on it already. When will it be ripe enough to take off and plant?

I have one of these also, and unfortunately am in the same boat. I cant find much info on them at all..
Please correct me if I am wrong but are they a variety of Ficus Retusa??

im pretty sure the are russ. penny what does the tag in the box say it looks like ficus retusa. i treat all figs the same but some are less tolerant to cold.

The tag says "Tiger Fig" Ray Nesci Nursery. You know he and Clinton propagate all their stuff. It came in a small pot and I put it in a 15ltr plastic drum which I cut in half.
How can I tell when the fruit is ready to pick?

b4 the birds eat it, then cut it open scrape out seeds and drym out ready to plant mid-late spring ( i would imagine) not talking from experience. and thats providing the seeds are fertile.

Sorry Penny, but i think i can see above "tiger bark" it says "Ficus retusa". I could be wrong. Either way, tiger bark is a cultivar of retusa.

Asus posted some info on here somewhere about growing figs from seed, and he is trying currently. A search should reveal his post. Good luck!

I am still trying to find it as Australian native.
I have just found reference to Tiger bark fig. In Jerry Meislik's Book
Ficus The exotic Bonsai ISBN 0-9749524-0-0

Ficus Microcarpa. Common names for some variety of this fig. Include Indian Laurel,Green Island,Green Gem,Tiger bark fig, Hawaii fig and Nitida fig.
It is also commonly found listed as Ficus retusa.
All of these are just varieties of, Ficus microcarpa. Showing the specific variations from the typical tree in bark and leaf.

You are right JayC, this hot weather has addled my brain. Thanks for the info, Pup. I'm surprised that it has fruit when it is so young. A few of our members have these figs and the bark looks great.

Tigerbark is one of my favorite varieties for bonsai. Plus the bark color is fantastic.
