Would love to see a pic please Grant to see where you're candles are at for potting. So as to check out your trigger so to speak.

My trigger for repotting was that I had time today. No visible elongation of candles/buds on this tree yet but shouldn't be long. Other black pines have started.anttal63 wrote:Would love to see a pic please Grant to see where you're candles are at for potting. So as to check out your trigger so to speak.

Nice tree grant,
and yes the right branch needs to droop in sympathy of the others

Re: Japanese Black Pine from seed after 21 years
I am thinking that the left branch needs to appear less downward motion while staying almost as low, to start with. I consider this could be acomplished with more move ment espesialy up and down.
Then I think the right branch would have to droop less to mimick it.

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Hi all,
Shouldn't be long before all the pines are covered in new growth.

Re: Japanese Black Pine from seed after 21 years
G'day Grant,
I much prefer it now with the RH branch lowered.
After seeing this tree (and your others) in the bark last month, you could say that I have Pinus envy. I walked out of your compound in a daze of enthusiasm and inspiration - Thank you!
I have always tried to wire my trees as neatly and precisely as possible but have not come close to the standard of yours. Can you take a close up shot of one of these branches to show everyone what I mean please? Not to brag but simply so others can see the detail and learn how it should be done.
Regards,
Steven

I think the daze was largely due to the red wine from the night before.
the inspiration was definately from Grants trees.
This is one of my favourite trees. Looks great.

What do you mean? There were three red wine drinkers and three bottles of red wine! Thats fair but not dazzling.Hartos wrote:I think the daze was largely due to the red wine from the night before.

Anyhow yes I will take some photos of my wiring. I have always been a neat wirer but have tried to lift my standard since Salvatore visited Australia.
Use the least amount of wire to do the job; wire from behind on the main trunk if practicable.
