Hi Ken, I have tried nothofagus gunnii a few times here in Olinda and they never make it through the first summer so I reckon your've got no chance up there, these plants are sub-alpine/alpine trees and hate the warm weather.

there is an abundent supply of huon pine down here in tas, obviously.... would be better if there was more though,

There is a goodly amount of Huon Pine plants available at Island Bonsai near Hobart. Little tackers up to decent sized plants in 20cm pots (from about $10 - $40). They can be posted...............little ones not too expensive, but freight on the bigger ones can be more than the cost of the plant! You could go to islandbonsai.com.au and enquire there.
