Wasn't in a particularly good mood today, just annoyed at myself. Decided the best way to cure a bad mood is with a bit of colour, so picked up three tiny little Kurume's I had on hold called Kirin. Nice aren't they, funny how they expend so much energy putting on such a marvelous display from a young age, it could be much better served going into their trunk development...I suppose they are geared to pollinate others.
I hope to be able to create some lovely lil' shohin bonsai out of them. I have a few other types of Kurume, yet this is the smallest flower I have come across so far.
Nice clusters of flowers, I am hold a bunch of about 5 open flower with three more buds yet to open. As you can see from the smallest one, these should be spectacular in early spring after development, mat of pink flowers. Yum!
Pretty little things, I don't mind they are small as I want to start early. Azaleas I have found have a tendency to become leggy, with very "snappy" branches quickly.
I'm thinking, I'll choose some trunk lines and remove most of the foliage, plant them out in the ground for a couple of seasons and see where we are at.
Any thoughts on development apart from growing on? Style wise? I am happy to try anything, as they were cheap and don't mind the consequences if it fails.
Edit- By the way, these three little gems were picked up for $4.00 each at Bunnings. See, some times we do have something worthwhile.
