Hey everyone, well I had a little hack at one of my trees today and I am not very happy with the result. I'm not entirely sure where to go with this one now. To be honest I am not entirely sure what possesed me to purchase this one in the beginning.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Personally I would get some movement going in it now while it is supple. That straight section of trunk is only going to be worse and set after another grow season.
I think the straight trunk is what is throwing it off initially. Get rid of that and movement becomes apparent. Here's a quick mudmap of a potting angle change. I would then get some wire on the trunk and try and put some movement in it. Possibly follow the line I have drawn. Once you have some decent movement wack it in the ground and "Bob's your uncle!".

Its a good start, now leave that wire on until the branches set then unwire & feed like crazy.
In Kimura's book he shows a white pine that was styled as a very thin young tree and then just grown on for another 20yrs constantly wiring & trimming to control every stage of growth. The results are stunning, a perfect formal upright with beautiful taper & no big chops. He kept lots of low branches that will eventually be jinned.
