Should I buy this tree?

I stumbled upon this fun little elm today. I almost bought it but as I don't have a lot of room for another tree right now I kept myself from buying it. It's $50 without the pot. What do you guys think?

I've seen quite a few of good trees during my 7.5 years living in Thailand. I think that tree is a bit dear for $50 USD in Thailand. However, use your gut feeling - if you like it well enough, buy it! If not, go find another tree.

I'm not keen on the present shape but a tree could be made from just the bottom branch or the first two. The trunk is a reasonable girth and would look much thicker if shorter. Unless you are prepared to cut it back and wait, leave it alone. That sounds brutal but it is what I would do.

If you want it and your've got $50.00 in your pocket then why not you can make a nice tree from it with a few years work.

If this was in Australian, than I would take that trunk line over the flat chopped stock we have available here. Though given your in Thailand, than perhaps there are other options than this one. Keep looking if you not sure.

I run by the rule, unless I definitely need it then I won't buy it. If you are not confident you can make a good bonsai out of it, save another $50 and go buy something really excellent to work with.

Has anyone noticed that this tree is sitting in a pot full of field soil? It is likely that it was just pulled out of the ground and dropped into a pot to be sold. I would pass because I can find better for less, it depends on what is available where you are I guess.
