flowering maple

Post by bonsaiboy50 »

Recently found my Japanese maple had flowers. This the first time I have seen, or heard of maples flowering. I guess this is nothing new or unusual but I thought I would share with you guys anyway.
Maple is Acer palmatum Atropurpureum.

Nice, and yes mate. All sort of maples do flowers. I've got flowers on Acer ginnala Flame maples, taiwanese maples...

Edit: let them seed and you'll have hundress of seedlings next years.
Cheers,
DK

funny, i considered starting a thread about this the other day, i was suprised to see my taiwanese trident flower and then seed, especially up here in queensland! over about a 3 week period it went from, it's leafless stage in week one, then about a week later it was flowering and the following week it had produced seeds, i did take some photos but i won't bother posting them as the flowers are much the same as you see in the pics above! ;)

Still want pics! :D The maples are such a nice tree. I especially like the multi colour leafed tree or when there grouped together in there different colours.
