Hi all

Coffee waste
I read somewhere about using coffee ground as fertilizer. what i know about it is that it slowly release nitrogen and increase worms in soil.

Banana waste
i was told that banana skin has high potassium and calcium which can encourage flower buds and leaf bud to grow better.

Beef liver/pork liver/rusty metal
Liver and rusty metal contain high ion which can help tree to grow faster.

Hormone tablet (weird)
Used on roses to make the flower grow like mad as i was told. It might be able to use on azalea and Camellia too

anyone try this or any other method before?

I use crushed eggshells, for calcium, and used tea leaves, not quite sure why. I was just told that they would be good for plants. My plants generally do pretty well with those additions.

G'day Dumper, all those things can be used but with today's fertilizers are not really relevant. What you can do is put all this stuff into compost and let it sit. Turn occasionally and then sieve it off and mix it into your soil mix.

maybe the caffiene keeps the trees up forcing them to grow for a longer period of time instead of having a snooze

Coffee grounds are very acidic they are good as a snail repellant. I would keep the kitchen waste for the compost.

Interesting, I am not sure that the snails and slugs get that message here. I was putting out the coffee fines at the back door for some time until I saw it writhing with them one night and they seemed to like it. I have since waged a very effective campaign with snail pellets. So far I am winning but it is a constant struggle. I am about to empty one of my compost bins, it has been cooking for a year now.

I have mentioned it before and I will mention it again and that is Comfrey. It's a leafy herb that makes a good liquid feed high in Potassium. Mixed with some Blood and Bone it makes for a good stinky back yard experiment.
The best thing about Comfrey is that you only need to buy it once and just let it grow.

Comfrey is great stuff, it's leaves make excellent compost too, but contain it, or it will take over your garden!!!

I Think comfrey is part of the symphytum genus. Do you know if they all have the same properties. I have some members here that are a little better behaved than the usual one which is a little rampant for me to grow here.
