Shimpaku in need of a style

Post by Sn00pi »

Hi All,

I got some great value stock from Leigh @ ledanta on the weekend, any ideas on styling?

Im planning to attend a club meeting on saturday for the first time and will be asing the same question.

Cheers

Hi,

It looks like very nice aged stock and there are so many ways to go with it that everyone is simply lost for words.

At the CBS show last weekend there were some beautiful junipers no taller than 15cm in an informal upright style. They would certainly be a good model.

There are so many options its difficult to know.

you could wrap it in raffia and add some bigger bends to accentuate the curves, you could turn in on its side and get a cascade and use the large branch on the right for an apex. you could chop it down and get a small wide tree as Grant suggests,

Maybe try Grants suggestion, he knows this type of stock pretty well does anyone have photos from the show to use as models.

That was my problem, its great stock, but im scared to start chopping at it for fear of ruining it - I have done this once before :( , when i first started getting into bonsai I got an amazing procumbens from my parents place, it was about 15 years old. I completely ruined it.

Thanks all, im checking out skippys thread now
