My 1951 Zelkova

Post by Edward Scissorhand »

I didnt think I had a zelkova but looking through my backyard jungle, I remembered I have one which I only started to work on last summer. Sorry too many trees to remember what I have. Anyway so apologies to Mudgy for saying I never had one. The story is a 1951 zelkova that stayed at a nursery for decades, it was just slip potted into bigger plastic black pots for decades. No-one wanted it because it was around a meter tall with ramrod straight twi-trunks. part of the wood was rotting and it was just so rootbound that I had to use a saw to cut through the plastic tub. I love this tree now. The ramrod twi-trunk was cut back last summer and then the tree was repotted in winter. I will refine the broom over the years and carve out the large cuts to blend in with trunk.
