My Windswept Juni (large pics)

hey everyone,
This little juni was a typical mallsai. It originally had five branches, not the three it now has. Unfortunately i dont have any original photos of it. But the first photo was not long after i first got it and corrected its major faults; you can see the grey cut paste where those branches were.

Next is how it looked today... before its major haircut and wiring.

And now... after mabye one and a half hour's work, an extremely thinned out and heavily wired windswept juni!!

And yes, before you say anything, i know that it looks distracting with the trunk going one way and the branches the other, but I couldnt do much about that. I just hope it doesnt die on me now, as its getting quite warm here in western sydney, but hey, i was bored. I'm not convinced , but i think i like the back better now than the front. What do you think? This is pretty much my first styling of a tree on my own so please forgive the dodgey wiring, what with it sticking out all over the place, and even crossing sometimes :O Hope you like it anyway

I think you've done a great job,Missy! I like that current front, it looks good!
But IMO,you could've jinned those unwanted 2 branches .

the bottom branch. try to bend it down more. if it is hard. use a wire tie on the brand and the other end to the pot slowly put it down day by day.

if u did not cut any roots the juni should be fine. if you did. just make sure that the soil is moist before cutting the roots.

Yes i know i should have jinned those branches. But at the time, i didnt really know what a jin was, let alone how to make one!

I think i get what you're saying about bending the branch down, but what i dont get is why. Could you please explain to me? I'm a bit slow... sorry.

I like this one, tis on its way to a nice little tree, nice pot too, I agree with john to bring the branches down just a dad more, you dont want it to go diagonally down as it will take away the windswept look to it, try thin it out some more like the wind has "stripped" the foliage of the tree, having the trunk going into the wind then the branches getting blown is a common way of creating windswept trees it works just fine

I like this one too.
Often you'll see windswept trees on the coast where their trunks look to go against the wind but the branches grow with the wind. The salt in the wind dries the cells of the tree on one side shrinking them and resticting their growth. The opposite side, protected from the salt winds grows faster giving the trunk an arced look as if it's fighting the wind. Nice little tree

Try tilting the tree so you do not have to bend the branches. Put a wedge under the pot on the opposite side to the sweeping branches, till you are satisfied with the look.

thats an interesting fact, I didnt know that at all about the salt drying out the cells causing shrinkage and the other side grows "faster" or more i guess which gives it that curve, cool, will have to keep that in mind, it might come in handy with a few experiments now

its basically like heating steel, if you heat one side of a tube as it cools it will shrink and curve the tube, sorry just how my mind works being a sheety

Being a windswept you may consider moving the tree more to one side of the pot.
