thinking about buying JBP stock

Post by ketutg »

Hi all,

I currently don't have any JBP's in my collection and have thought about getting one for a while now.
I haven't come across any stock that has caught my eye here in SA and came across these
http://stores.ebay.com.au/Ledanta-Bonsa ... idZ2QQtZkm

Has anyone else looked at these? If so which one would they get? i like trees 2, 3 & 5
i'll probably buy one once the stimulus package rolls out. that's if they're still available.

I know BPs change a lot over the years but I find the lot of these so static in the zig here/zag there - zig here/zag there. #2 has foliage close to the trunk which is good I'm not rapt in the zigzag trunk. #3 has a large flare at the nebari that would develop nicely. #5 has more taper but obviously younger. Prices seem reasonable for development. If one grabs you I'd chat with Leigh about putting a non-refundable deposit on it to hold it until your ship comes in.

Afraid i am with Lee on the zig zag shapes! Prices seem reasonable, but material.......well if the S is your thing, go for it.

thanks for the feedback guys. I hear what you're saying about the zig zag but as this would be my first JBP (if i do end up purchasing) i don't mind having a 'cookie cutter' tree at first to help me on my everlasting journey that is bonsai.

I'm leaning more towards tree no.2 because of the movement it has at the base (goes out further right before the s shape) and foliage is close to the trunk... i will have to have a few sleeps on it i think. i bet all i'll dream about is a massive JBP with a helmet head, great taper, ramification and nebari though. one step at a time... :D

If you can stretch the budget to number 3 i would if i were you.......or event talk to Leigh and negotiate a deal, he has stated here previously that if you ask, you never know,
you just might get a deal. Good luck with it buddy.

That's right Peter, anything I have on eBay (apart from the mini Japanese pots) has eBay's listing and selling fees factored into the price. If you want anything that is listed there, it is best to bypass eBay and contact me directly (dont tell eBay this! 8-) ). This includes the Bonsai Focus Magazine.

The zig zag is a little unattractive on this stock, however, as the tree develops and the pads of foliage begin to get closer together, you wont notice this so much, it should look more like "nice movement" and less like "zig-zag".

Here are some more pics of JBP2.

Cheers,
Leigh.
