Hot off the potting bench

Post by bonsaiboy50 »

Another fig just after I finished potting it up. It is not the pot I wanted for it but the only one I had that would fit it. It is very haed to find a decent selection of pots in my area. What sort of pot would suit it?? I am thinking a nice oval tray. Let me know what you think

Looks good BB. I agree, a more shallow oval pot would suit your tree a lot better. What are the dimensions of the pot it's in now?

A very nice tree B.B. I imagine it will be a little taller as the right hand branch is far to long for the overall picture. Wish i could grow figs outdoors in Central Victoria :(

Maybe a slightly shallower and slightly shorter pot, but IMO it's not only a little too big. It does look good there :)

Maybe search for an 85-90mm deep and 370mm length? Not much smaller.
That's my opinion :)

Funny enough BB, photo wise, I don't mind that pot with this tree. The girth of the tree nearly suits the depth of the pot and once it leafs out will look even better. The ramification you have achieved is great as well. Would love to see another pic after if leafs out.

gday mate :D

I tend to agree with Graeme on this one the pot is ok with it as the trunk is quite powerful so a deeper pot isnt so much of a problem. I think a shallower tray will make it a little less sturdy, like the tree will fall through it.

very nice tree too, solid as, and the ramification is great :D

Bb, as per Graeme and Jamie, I don't see this pot as being too long, but if you really want a more shallow pot then my suggestion would be to have one a bit longer than the pot it's in now - and then, I'd only look at going down to a minimum of 80-90mm. Anything smaller in depth or length would create a big imbalance between the size of the tree and the size of the pot.

Taffy.
