Hi

I just bought a new book to learn more about bonsai so i stop killing them (been told i love them too much haha),

Book--->The Secret Techniques of Bonsai: A Guide to Starting, Raising, and Shaping Bonsai BY Masakuni Kawasumi II and Masakuni Kawasu III (Author) but translated BY Kay Yokota

And there wasnt as much infomation in the book as i would haved liked.

Can someone suggest a well informed book with pictures on the complete process of bonsai including the pest protection etc. i dont want to pay a heap of money for the book though so nothing too expensive thanks.

I just want something when im having trouble to go to the book and go OH i get it and fix what ever the problem is.

Hi whereswally007 , most written literature is well illustrated .If you belong to a local library give them a visit , they seem to keep a good array of books on this topic .Ask them for there available stock on Bonsai and borrow til your hearts content and read for free .Cheers Alpine

Thanks for that but my town library is small and only has old books. Plus i havent got my card for it any more but if i cant find a good book to purchase i will see if they can get some in for me but thanks for your input

There are many good books on the market. Deborah Koreshoff's book BONSAI Its Art Science, History and Philosophy, is one of the best available.

Any thing by Peter Chan or Peter Adams. Also Craig Coussins has a few for begginers but only having read one of his books that was full of typo's and mistakes I am not sure.
Just a few but I am sure others will follow up.

One of the very best books for the beginner is the Sunset Bonsai Book. If you can get one, go for it as I think a lot of Australia's leading teachers started with this one.

My second book, my first was. You to can grow Bonsai in Australia by Vita and Dorothy Koreshoff.

Pup this was my first book (Oh, read that quote again .)
My second was, ready for this? Sunset Bonsai ................. you have to love well meaning wives.
Just for the record I think I ended up with 5 Sunset books over the years. No, not all from the same well meaning wife, but I love my kids just as much.
Other than a few books I had left over when I sold the Nursery I don't think I had any more double ups after those ones.

Just had a thought, I think somewhere I have a copy of both Naka's books. Wonder what they would be worth on EvilBay these days???????

I recently red "Bonsai Techniques 1" by John Naka and its a great book!

I would strongly recommend it. It does have black and white pictures tho and mostly there are sketches and its really easy to
understand.

Its hard to get it in AU tho...so I bought it from US from ebay

The sunset was also my first book!

I highly recommend "the bonsai handbook" by david prescott and colin lewis. Its widely available in full A4 size or compact size. Great beginners book on all things bonsai, from the science, styling, pests and species.

My choice for three 'must have' books would be:

Bonsai - it's Art, Science, History and Philosophy by Deborah Koreshoff

Bonsai Techniques I and 2 by John Yoshio Naka

After those three, look for books by Peter Chan, Peter Adams, Harry Tomlinson, Dan Barton - all are good reading material.
