Hey mate, JRP and JWP might struggle a bit in your climate. It will be too warm and humid. Radiata will be good, and JBP will grow too.

JRP might be fine, noah78 had one in Rockhampton that struggled a bit, but survived, I would think that the Sunshine Coast is quite a bit more hospitable than Rocky.
You could PM him and ask.

Cheers,
Mojo

Re JWP, first you have to rob a bank or win the lotto to buy a decent one.

I had a nice one at about 40cm when I lived in the suburbs that I traded a beautiful 25 year old Shimpaku for, plus a bit of cash as well to get the deal done. I sold it a little reluctantly in 2007 when I moved up here to the mountains, the new owned kept making offers until I gave in. I was more than happy with the price, but I wish I had kept the tree. In 2009, I bumped into the lady that relieved me of the JWP, only to learn that the tree had been knocked off it's display stand by the bloke that maintains her garden, had dried out in one of her perennial beds before being noticed and had died an agonising death over the next couple of weeks. Luckily her gardener had good insurance, but I reckon his premiums might have gone up a bit since :D .
From 2004 when I first got my eager little hands on the tree until 2009 when the tree became sawdust, the tree had double in value and all concerned had gotten value for money.

My accountant (Mrs Mojo) informs me that the next nice JWP might be have to be a shohin that I grow from scratch and I agree   8-) .

Cheers,
Mojo

A good pine for Qld is the Slash Pine; Pinus Elliottii.

It replaces the Radiata pine for forestry up that way and there should be seed easily harvestable.

Hmmm Thanks for all the reply's ;) . I should have made it more clear though, I'm not interested in whites, mugo's or scots pines as none will grow well here . Manly just Pinus densiflora, but am interested in anything obscure too ie Pinus ponderosa , pinus aristata , Pinus taeda , Pinus nigra,Pinus kremfii,Pinus morrisonicola,Pinus taiwanensis ect...As i already have in my collection plenty of jbp's , pinus radiata, pinus pinea , pinus elliotii, pinus koraiensis, pinus lambertiana and pinus canaraensis i'm not particullarly looking for any of these either . . . what can i say? I love pines lol

Cheers Ryan :)
