Lilly and Stumpy

Hi guys and gals , these are my long term resident pets , coming out for a feed .

Lilly is about 7 years old and stumpy is closer to 10 . I have been here for about 15 years and Blue Tongue Lizards have always been present and raise their young in the garden .My little bloke as a toddler carried these around the garden in his little wheelbarrow .They had 4 little ones last year and i have found 2 this season . I like Lilly's colour.
My avatar is of a resident pet I have, it lives in a rock retaining wall in the back yard. It's home is like a snail grave yard and it also likes eggs (as seen in the picture). We've fed it for years but it is too shy to let us handle it.

Hi Tman , i had a tiger here about 5 years ago and no Blue tongues in sight .With all the rains around the are on the move here too .I don't mind wiggle sticks "snakes" as long as i can see them .Cheers Alpine

We have a big old guy here who lives under the corner of the driveway, keeps the snails down. Plus we feed him worms, eggs and anything we think he might like.

Nice bright colours on Lilly - looks like she may have recently moulted Alpine. Haven't seen any here yet. The only lizards we get are Goannas and Bearded Dragons.

We get quite a few Joe Blakes here - mainly Eastern Browns. Not surprising really considering we live on a 2 acre block. Our block is reasonably well cleared but the owners of the block next door have left it completely natural. They only cleared enough to build their house and garage. It's completely covered in Eucalypts, wattles etc and thick carpet of leaf litter. Perfect habitat for snakes. We don't mind - we don't have any kids here so they aren't a problem. When I see one close to the house I just help him on his way with a broom. I don't believe in killing snakes unnecessarily - after all, we chose to live in their territory. If I lived on a suburban block or had kids here, then I might feel differently about it. I sure don't want to end up a casualty of a snake bite - and it's when people try to kill them that most bites occur.

I didn't know this latest one was so close, but we feed a family of Butcher Birds on an old cracked bird bath just outside our veranda and one of the birds was going out of his brain with their alarm call. I looked up and said 'What you going off about Ratbag?' and then realized he was looking down. I looked over the rail and there it was. Once again, I helped him on his way with the broom and directed him back to the fence. The last time I moved one on, he 'killed' the broom three times before I got him through the fence. Reckon I need one of those long handled 'gripper' things so I can just pick them up and deposit them over the fence without too much fuss. Guess I'll have to draw one up and make it.

HiTman , Lilly has always been light brown and glossy and each year she produces 1 of the same . Live and let live is the best solution , last year i recall seeing 38 road kills Tigers , Blacks and Browns in a 160 klm day trip to Albury and Benalla .It is sad to see creatures run over , some are accidents but many are deliberate .Cheers Alpine
