3 White Azaleas

Post by LLK »

Hello everyone,

Attached are the photos of my 3 white azaleas. The first is a sun tolerant one that I bought in 2003. I lost the name tag, sorry. The greenery at the bottom is a small columbine and before I kill that I first have to see if it's a special one. The azalea doesn't mind hosting it. The second photo shows Bride's Bouquet, which I am very fond of because the flowers are like small white roses. The structure of that little tree is appalling; I cut it back severely last year and it hasn't re-developed in any interesting way. The third is a small Azalea that was part of a whole lot I bought from Woolies last year, when they were 2 for $ 8.00. They didn't have any labels and most had finished flowering, so it was a bit of a gamble choosing them. I opted for single or double trunk plants, reasoning that I'd never seen an ugly azalea in my life. This Spring it proved worth it! Anyway, the white one here, with the green throat, shows some flowers with extra petals in the centre, narrow and curly. It's quite a spectacular little plant, but considering the size of the flowers it will have quite a bit of growing to do before things are in proportion.

They are gorgeous and remind me of snow covered plants!

You described the flowers well, as being rose-shaped. I haven't seen that before, very unusual & special.

Well done.

A bear is expected to eat itself stupid, sleep for six months, be hairy, grumpy and swat anything that annoys it.

I'm coming back as a bear!!!!

Thanks for the kind words. Re: the pot of the biggest Azalea: that was a lucky find, but I can't remember any details of its origin. I think the pot is rather deep, but I did not dare to reduce the matted rootball too much which it had when I bought the plant.
About Bride's Bouquet: it is quite a popular Azalea and a good garden centre might stock it or be able to order it. It's quite a vigoroous grower, btw.
