English elm raft au naturale.
Hi all,
This is probably without doubt the best English elm I have ever seen. It was dug up from a farmers paddock in 1988 and refined over the next 22 years.
I have just cleared it with the owner and will be doing a very detailed trim back and defoliation over the next week. Probably a good 3 days work with volunteers as well helping.
If you are any where nearbye you should come and see this tree.

Verrrry nice tree!
So many little branches!
I do not mean to offend the owner (I agree best English elm I have ever seen) but I can see the tree in a pot that is a little longer and a little plainer more of a standard rectangle?
What do others think?

The owner is after a better pot for it and almost had one a bout a year ago. It had sat in a shop for years and when he finally went to purchase it there was just a dust spot on the shelf where it had been till about a week before.Scott Roxburgh wrote:Verrrry nice tree!

Definitely the most spectacular example of the species I have seen and one of the most superb rafts as well. I notice that after being defoliated there are still some tiny leaves in place- are these just accidental 'left overs' or do they tell us something more about the cultivation of this tree?
best regards
Ash

Re: English elm raft au naturale.
the shot above was taken about 8 weeks ago as it was budding. It is now in leaf and will be thinned, trimmed , defoliated over the next week. New studio shot tomorrow.Ash wrote:Definitely the most spectacular example of the species I have seen and one of the most superb rafts as well. Stunningly beautiful! A credit to the artist and definitely worthy of display at the NBPCA. Is it on loan or donated?
What are the dimensions Grant?

Absolutely stunning. A real work of art. Next time some learned individual says that there are not world class bonsai being made in Australia, this tree should set them straight.

I second and third that comment, we do have them here in Australia. Both tree's and Artist's I have been arguing the point for a long time.EdwardH wrote:Absolutely stunning. A real work of art.
