English elm raft au naturale.

Post by NBPCA »

Hi all,

This is probably without doubt the best English elm I have ever seen. It was dug up from a farmers paddock in 1988 and refined over the next 22 years.

I have just cleared it with the owner and will be doing a very detailed trim back and defoliation over the next week. Probably a good 3 days work with volunteers as well helping.

If you are any where nearbye you should come and see this tree.

An amazing tree, as good as any of this species that I have seen in magazines. From where was it dug up Grant?

Verrrry nice tree!

So many little branches! 8-)

I do not mean to offend the owner (I agree best English elm I have ever seen) but I can see the tree in a pot that is a little longer and a little plainer more of a standard rectangle?

What do others think?

The owner is after a better pot for it and almost had one a bout a year ago. It had sat in a shop for years and when he finally went to purchase it there was just a dust spot on the shelf where it had been till about a week before.

Definitely the most spectacular example of the species I have seen and one of the most superb rafts as well. I notice that after being defoliated there are still some tiny leaves in place- are these just accidental 'left overs' or do they tell us something more about the cultivation of this tree?

best regards
Ash

the shot above was taken about 8 weeks ago as it was budding. It is now in leaf and will be thinned, trimmed , defoliated over the next week. New studio shot tomorrow.

Stunningly beautiful! A credit to the artist and definitely worthy of display at the NBPCA. Is it on loan or donated?
What are the dimensions Grant?

Steven

It is only on loan until August next year 2011;so if you want to see it in the flesh you will need to make a trip to see it..

It is a large raft at about 125 cms long.

Absolutely stunning. A real work of art. Next time some learned individual says that there are not world class bonsai being made in Australia, this tree should set them straight.

I second and third that comment, we do have them here in Australia. Both tree's and Artist's I have been arguing the point for a long time.

Cheers :D Pup
