Junkyard find

Post by Tinmonkey »

I found these little stonewear bowls at the local junkyard while looking for bits and peices to make a compost turner.
I thought they might make nce little Bonsai pots after i drill a drain hole in them.
What do you think?
They only cost $5 for the lot so if they arent any good its no great loss.

I hope the cost of the drill bits does not exceed the cost of these :)

even if you had to get a bit it would be worth it. Great glaze on some of those, I can definitely see bonsai in them. :)

Great find!
Regards, Mitchell.

Hi tinmonkey , when i started these are exactly what i used ,place the pot on thick rubber to prevent breakage. Still collect the occasional nice decorative pots , bowls even saucers .I have picked up quite a few nice Japanese bonsai pots browsing Op shops for 50 cents a throw .Good recycling .Cheers Alpine

Looks like a good score to me, like Alpine I started out with this sort of stuff for trees and accents and I still have many of them with trees & other bits in them.

I drill mine in a bucket of sand with a hose dribbling over it to stop the bit getting too hot. Go slow when drilling, also to help reduce the pots from chipping & splitting put some masking tape on the outer side of where you are drilling.

Look forward to seeing them with plants in.
