Hi Gabrielle, nice to see you back.
Two likely possibilities,
Mites- very small insects they cac be seen if you place a piece of white paper underneath and shake the affected branch.
use pesticide ASAP
Root damage- Sometimes a tree which is styled in winter has roots damaged during the styling and the damage does not become evident until the weather warms up and the tree needs extra water. Perhaps another form of root damage like grubs will show in the same way
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Hi Gabriel, it looks like your Juniper has a branch that is in decline, keep it in a semi shaded place and mist the foliage as well as it's normal watering regime. The branch isn't broken is it?
Was the tree repotted recently?
Good luck,
Mojo

Gerard the damage is evenly across the branch and not in the rest of the tree at all, which is not typical of spider mites, although using a natural miticide like Yates Natrasoap wont harm the tree, I wouldn't go nuking the tree with chemicals unless there is definitely a pest problem.
...Might as well face it, I'm addicted to Shohin...

You can't tell for certain by that photo but it looks like only half the tree is sick, maybe just that branch as Mojo says, looks like a jin coming up. :D

When I want to get serious with insects I will use a solution of 3 parts clensil and 1 part rogor diluted with the recommended amount of water.
Rogor is really nasty stuff so anyone who uses it should be very careful.
Pyrethrum and confidor are nicer options.

Confidor alone acts as an aphrodisiac for mites. You can use mavric plus pestoil plus confidor to clean up everything including spider mite/two spotted mite etc

I've just noticed the same thing on a couple of my Junis over the last few days. They appeared last year as well. I used confidor last time and it seemed to work. Now I just need to find the bottle to give them a dose!!

Hi Gabriel, Gerard's explanation is the correct way to find the mites, lime sulphur I find is the best way to eradicate the red spider mite, use 5mls to a litre of water, cover soil if wish, I find no problem if I don' t, long as you have not just watered (common sense). Spray on leave for a good one to two hours, then hose off, repeat in 7 to 10 days. This will knock mites & any other nasties for six. Then get your self a good maintenance programme going. Only thing I would strongly advise is do this in full shade. If you have that many spots / dots on paper & moving, act quickly. I have used these pyrethrum & confidor & found them to be only band-aid solutions, your call mate, glove up, p2 disposal mask, eye ware & you will be find. Now go get them the little buggers.

As i said above Confidor does not work on its own for mites.

I just remembered I used Mavrik and not Confidor. I just gave my juni's a dose of it now.
